- Types of emergent bilingual language programs
- Ages and stages of emergent language development
- Approaches to building emergent language competence
Session 2: Strategies for developing receptive language skills
- Creating awareness of sound structures
- Models of developing receptive language skills
- Appropriate materials to develop receptive language skills
- Role of the adult and child to develop receptive language skills
Session 3: Strategies for developing expressive language skills
- Models of developing expressive language skills
- Appropriate materials to develop receptive language skills
- Role of the adult and child to develop receptive language skills
- Working in partnerships with families and staff
Trainer’s Profile
Dr. Crowther has been involved in in-service training, on site, at conferences and workshops both nationally and internationally. She has presented in urban, rural and isolated jurisdictions across Canada. The focus of these presentations has been to improve individualized sustainable, quality of childcare services for early childhood professionals.
She has published numerous textbooks and articles in association newsletters and other professional journals. Current publications include concept books that bridge the gap between theory and practice. She writes articles and concept books based on client demand. Dr. Crowther also publishes resource books and support materials on demand.
Methodology
This workshop provides strategies to guide children’s language acquisition positively and effectively and to foster greater understanding and practice of how to create positive communicative learning environments.
