Behaviour is a communication. To change the communication we must change the environment. Developing a positive approach to behaviour supports children emerging self-regulation skills and coping strategies, their ability to build strong relationships and to be ready for learning.
Objectives
Upon successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand the behaviour of children
- Promote positive behaviour and wellbeing within the early years
- Understand social emotional and mental health needs in children
- Explore children’s behaviour and what it is trying to tell us
- Consider links between promoting emotional wellbeing, mental health and positive behaviour
- Implement strategies to help offer the optimum environment for positive behaviour, wellbeing and social and emotional development

- Behaviour is a communication – what are they trying to say?
- The importance of building relationships – getting it right from the start
- An introduction to Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning
Day 2: Strategies to support positive behaviour
- Universal support for developing the wellbeing of children
- Developing positive behaviour
- Targeted and personalised support
- Action planning – moving forward and planning ahead
Trainer’s Profile
Sue F. is a nationally and internationally respected senior trainer in EYFS based in England with over 30 years’ experience. Her expert roles have included lead trainer and moderator for National and Regional EYFS initiatives.
With many years of experience as a teacher, trainer, adviser and consultant within the field of education, mainly focused on the early year’s sector, Sue has developed specialist training programmes for practitioners and led organisational change programmes for those affected by changes in legislation, policy and best practice. She have worked with the private, voluntary and public sectors in a wide range of settings including local authorities, schools, early years and specialist provision
Her focus has always been and remains to upskill early years professionals to meet the needs of all children in their care. This is achieved by making training as meaningful as possible through current thinking and research, practical sessions and take away tasks. Her training is known to be very hands-on, practical and enjoyable.

- Practical activities to develop new skills and knowledge
