This workshop invites school administrators, educators, and caregivers to explore how mindfulness supports effective, compassionate leadership in educational settings. Through practical exercises, reflective discussion, and evidence-informed strategies, participants will build the inner resources needed to navigate stress, enhance communication, and foster a culture of psychological safety and inclusion. Mindful leadership begins with awareness of self and extends to nurturing thriving, resilient communities.

Objectives
Participants will be able to:

  • Develop self-awareness and emotional regulation skills essential for mindful leadership.
  • Understand how mindfulness practices support relational leadership.
  • Apply mindful communication strategies to enhance collaboration among educators, families, and students.
  • Cultivate habits that support resilience, psychological safety, and a compassionate school culture.
  • Integrate brief, effective mindfulness tools into meetings, classrooms, and daily routines.
  • Develop an individualized plan to integrate mindfulness into their leadership practice.

    • The RAIN method for difficult moments
    • Practice: RAIN and self-kindness meditation
    • Journaling: challenges and leadership emotions
  • Leadership Under Pressure
    • Reactivity vs. responsiveness
    • The power of pause in decision-making
    • Practice: three-minute breathing space
  • Creating Space for Reflection
    • Reflective journaling and partner dialogue

Day 2: Leading in Relationship – Presence and Connection

Presenter’s Profile
Jill S. is a social and emotional learning consultant and coach based out of Bellingham, WA, USA. In her  28-year career, she has worked in American and Chinese public and independent schools with young people (ages 2-18) and their families as a teacher, school administrator, and a social and emotional learning specialist. She holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from DePaul University in Chicago, IL, USA. She seeks to help teachers, students, families, and schools focus on their strengths and learn additional tools to increase their wellness. Her vision is to share the wellness perspective with as many people, educators, and parents as possible so that cultures become healthier places that welcome and care for everyone.

Methodology
Didactic instruction; large and small group discussions; sitting, standing, and lying down meditation practices;  verbal and written reflection, role plays, and paired share.
